School’s in at Loynton

Things have taken a distinctly educational turn at The Coffee Cup at Loynton with two brand new initiatives for the picturesque tea rooms.

In June we are hosting what we hope will be the first of many regular art workshops with Newport artist and illustrator Sallie Humphreys. The talented young artist will be running small workshops where anyone from complete amateurs to those just wanting to brush up on their skills can take part in a two and a half hour session. Topics will range from still life and flowers to family illustrations and illustrating your own children’s book.

Sallie’s own work has a wonderful quirky feel and her personal pet subjects are rosy cheeked people with smiley faces!

Her first session at Loynton will be on Tuesday 7 June from 2.30pm to 5pm. The session costs £25 per person which will include tuition with Sallie, all materials and two hot drinks and a slice of delicious cake. Anyone wishing to take part should call to book a slot. Places will be limited to six so will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Should you wish to enjoy a light lunch ahead of the class, this can also be booked in advance.

School Run

And still on an educational theme, from now until the end of this summer term the tea rooms also have a School Run Special. For anyone feeling frazzled getting the kids to school on time or who feels exhausted having rushed to collect them at the end of the day, this is just perfect. The tea rooms are offering a special deal of £3.50 for any hot drink and a portion of crumpets, with jam and butter or a buttered teacake. The offer is only available from 9am to 10am and 3.30pm to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday until the end of term.

The summer menu is now in full swing with a choice of salads alongside the other homemade specials, which include lasagne, quiche, fish and cottage pie to name but a few.

While there are ample tables in the main tea rooms and the conservatory as well as a dozen outside tables, booking is advisable for parties of six or more to ensure you can be accommodated easily.
