Love Story – a new chapter at Carl Taphouse Carpets

We’re an independent carpet retailer, situated in the heart of Newport, just off the High Street. You’ll find our sign by Barclays Bank! A few steps through the arch and you’ll see our shop ahead.

We’ve been in business since 1980 when my parents Alf and Marjorie Taphouse established Taphouse Carpets. We’ve had premises on the High Street and now at Barclays Bank Chambers, and we keep our overheads low to pass on savings and discounts direct to our customers.

My new wife, Pru, is in the shop four days a week whilst I’m out fitting or helping customers with no obligation measures and quotes – free of charge. Wednesdays and Saturday mornings are my shop days and I particularly enjoy seeing customers – old and new – and talking with our suppliers about their innovative ranges and best value deals.

We’re not just about carpets though. We supply and fit a huge range of vinyls for kitchens and bathrooms, laminates and engineered wood. You’ll also find a superb selection of traditional and contemporary rugs in our showroom. We sell mats and runners, and can fit inset door matting to size and specification. Carpet tiles, Flotex, natural sisal, safety flooring and even artificial grass – you will find them all at Carl Taphouse Carpets.

Our roll end stock is second to none. If you know your room measurement, we can generally find something to fit – more often than not, an 80/20 or 100% wool carpet at over 50% off book price.

We aim to provide the people of Newport and the surrounding area with a friendly and professional service for all things carpet and flooring. Our showroom is open six days a week, Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm, and Saturday from 9am to 1pm. You’re most welcome to browse or ask for advice.
