Fifty Shades of… Green!

The colour green is having something of a revival in the world of carpet.

Here at Carl Taphouse Carpets, we’ve had a number of enquiries for different shades and stripes in green.

The fabulous sage green striped Artwork carpet in the picture can look sensational on a staircase and landing.

But, put the words green and carpet together, and in this age of environmental concern, we tend to think about the sustainable qualities of our floor coverings. Are they good for the environment, and what happens when we uplift the old and bring in the new?

Well, the good news is that wool carpets have an environmental pedigree that’s second to none. It might be stating the obvious, but a fibre that’s grown on sheep which roam freely is 100% natural and fully sustainable.

Wool is biodegradable too and once broken down produces water, carbon dioxide and nitrogen, all of which are essential to our ecosystem.

Many believe that 100% wool carpets can’t be beaten for strength, performance and good looks.

So why do we come across 80/20 or 80/10/10 wool rich blends? Well, a little bit of man-made magic can help enhance wool’s many qualities. The addition of synthetic fibres to the yarn can assist the manufacturer in the dyeing and heat setting process, as well as add stain resistance and durability to the finished carpet. All of which brings you, the customer, a vast array of choice in terms of colour, texture, comfort and style.

In September 2014, Stella McCartney showcased her latest designs including four ball gowns made from fabric remnants, and shoes and accessories fashioned from sustainable, recycled materials.

And the fashion show’s name? Why, the Green Carpet Collection, of course! •
